Carl Hass was born June 6, 1851 at Kiel, Schleswig Hostein, Germany, and died in St. Luke's Hospital at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on May 8, 1932 after an illness of seven weeks.

He came to America in 1872 and lived near Davenport about sixteen years, after which he moved to a fam five miles west of Tipton, where he remained until 1904. During the following nine years he farmed in the Red Oak community after which he made his home in Tipton, until a year and a half ago, when failing health caused him to spend his declining days with his daughter, Mrs. Mina Kroger, and his son, William.

On May 1, 1889 he was united in marriage to Eva Hanf. Seven children were born to them. One daughter, Amanda, died at the age of twelve years. His loving wife passed away in 1923.

Early in life he was confirmed in a Lutheran church in Germany and in 1917 he united with the Reformed church at Tipton, remaining a faithful member until death.

In his passing away, the community loses a highly respected friend, and the children a loving father.

He is survived by six children, Herman and Mrs. Mina Kroger of Tipton, William and Mrs. Viola Schroeder of Mechanicsville, Charles of West Branch, Edward of Wilton Jct., 14 grand children and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00, in the Tipton Reformed church, the Rev. A. R. Von Gruenigen officiating. Burial was made in the Sand Hill cemetery.
