Word was received this morning at Bennett that Francis Plate was killed in a plane accident in Canada. He was serving in the Royal Canadian air force.

He was the son of the late Henry W. Plate and wife, Mrs. Lucy Plate of Bennett. The accident happened yesterday at Bauphine, Manitoba. There were five killed in the accident. Mr. Plate was the only American killed in the accident. He was nineteen years old.

The body of Francis H. Plate, who was killed in an airplane accident last Wednesday at Dauphin, Manitoba, arrived in Bennett on Monday with a comrade in charge, and the funeral was held yesterday.

Francis, who was a nephew of Mrs. H. J. Klatt, enlisted in the air corps in Canada in November, 1941, and was to have graduated next November, at which time his mother, Mrs. Lucy Plate of Bennett, planned to attend the ceremonies.

Francis H. Plate was born near Bennett September 22, 1922, the son of the late Henry W. Plate, a veteran of the first world war, and Mrs. Lucy Riedesel Plate, and would have been 20 years old the 22nd of next month.

Surviving relatives are the mother and brother, little Henry Plate, of Bennett; a brother, Wilmer Plate, of the U. S. flying school at Tulsa, Oklahoma, who will graduate in November; and the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Christine Riedesel, night operator and manager of the Bennett telephone exchange.
