16 December 1943 - The Clarence Sun

Wm. F. McCarthy, a former postmaster of Clarence, died early Thursday morning of a heart attack at his home in Anamosa.

He was born in Mitchell county on March 1, 1877, and was therefore in his sixty-sixth year. The family moved to Anamosa when he was a child.

He was married to Harriet Peet in October, 1906, and in 1909 they moved to Clarence where he operated a general store and served as postmaster during the Wilson administration. In 1929, they moved to Ames, where he made his headquarters as a salesman for a Cedar Rapids wholesale grocery firm, and about six years ago the family returned to Anamosa.

In addition to his wife, survivors are three sons, Robert W. and Francis P. McCarthy of Anamosa and Douglas C. MaCarthy, Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Mrs. E. T. Kausnicka, Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren; a brother, J. J. McCarthy, Chicago, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Mills, Chicago and Mrs. Margaret Miller, Kewanee, Ill.

The funeral was held on Monday at St. Patrick's church in Anamosa. Burial was in the local cemetery.
