21 October 1943 - The Clarence Sun

Mrs. Ernest Hasselbusch, nee Huelse was born in Esdorf Kries Neinbrug Hanover, Germany, March 21, 1863. She was baptized in infancy and confirmed in Christian faith in 1878.

In the year 1884 she came to America and here, two years later, on February 19, 1886, she joined hands in holy wedlock with Ernest Hasselbusch. To this union one daughter and four sons were born.

Mr. and Mrs. Hasselbusch lived on a farm east of Clarence until 1914 when they retired from active farm work, moving to Clarence, which has since been their home.

In 1936 they were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary, but only a little more than a year later her life partner was taken to his eternal home.

Mrs. Hasselbusch was always actively interested in the work of the church, and at the time of her death was a member of the Frauenverein.

Although she had passed her 80th birthday, she was in comparatively good health until about two weeks ago when she became ill and since then gradually her condition became worse until the angel of death came to take her to the Master whom she loved so well, on Saturday morning, October 16.

She leaves to mourn her departure: One daughter, Mrs. Louise Meyer; three sons, Paul, Ernest and Martin, all of Clarence. One son, Wilfred, preceded his parents in death in 1918. Other survivors include nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ernsting of Lowden, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Henry Huelse of Clarence, besides a host of friends, for all who knew her loved her.

Funeral services were held at St. John's church on October 18, 1943, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. F. J. Mittler officiated at the services. In charge of the flowers were: Selma Ruther, Louise Miller and Mathilda Meier. The pallbearers were: George Hansen, H. J. Klatt, Ernest Conrad, William Ibsen, Louis Hansen and Fred Koch.
