Fritz Engelking was born January 6, 1870, in Estroff, Germany, and died August 5, 1944, at his home in Olin at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 30 days.

In 1888 he came to the United States, making his home with an uncle at Clarence, Iowa.

On October 26, 1898, he was united in marriage to Emma Hoffmaster of Clarence. Three children were born to this union, all of whom with his wife survive. They are Arthur, Mrs. Esther Harvey and Frederick, all of Olin; also one grandchild, Eugene. Three brothers also survive, Charlie of Lisbon, Henry of Long Beach, Calif., and William of St. James, Minn. One brother and a sister preceded him in death.

The early years of his married life were spent farming in the vicinity of Clarence, until 1902 when he moved to Olin, farming south of town. For the past 25 years he had been manager of the Olin Telephone Company, and for many years he had been a director in the Olin Cemetery Association, serving as president at the time of his death.

Funeral services were conducted at Olin on Wednesday afternoon, August 9th. The Rev. William Strait officiated and the music was furnished by Guy Macomber and Earl Phillips.

Pallbearers were Henry Hansen, Carl Hansen, William Hansen, Ed Griem, Howard Biere and Raymond Biere. Interment was in the Olin cemetery.
