20 August 1953 - The Clarence Sun

Audrey, daughter of Andrew and Susan Bixler, was born December 8th, 1885 at Clarence, Iowa. She was one of seven children. She quietly and suddenly passed away on Thursday, August 13, 1953, having attained the age of 67 years, 8 months and 5 days.

She attended public school in Clarence, Iowa, having graduated from that high school 50 years ago. Then she attended Highland Park College, Des Moines, Iowa, graduating therefrom. Then she taught in rural schools, and in the public schools of West Bend, Iowa and in Clarence.

On September 11, 1911 she was united in marriage to Jay McCormick of Olin, and moved into the Olin vicinity where she has lived ever since. To this union were born two children, Arlo of Olin, and Eileen, (Mrs. Carl Mardorf) of Anamosa, both of whom with her husband survive her passing.

Also surviving are three grandchildren, Thomas McCormick, David and Donna Mardorf; two sisters, Mrs. Tom Sylvester of Clarence and Mrs. Otto Evers of Stanwood; one brother, Earl of Olin; and numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

When 15 years of age, Audrey united with the Presbyterian church in Clarence, and on moving to Olin transferred her membership to the Methodist church, in November 1912. She has been unusually active and interested in all church work, being a member of the W.S.C.S. and a most faithful and worthy member of the choir. She will be greatly missed in the labors of the church, as well as in other activities. She was also treasurer of the local church for eight years. She was a member of Hiawatha Chapter O.E.S. holding the position of Past Matron; and a member of the Sorosis club.

Such devotion and Christian service will ever be a pleasant memory to her loved ones and friends. Our loss in Heavens gain.
