Herbert Lendt, son of Christian and May Moeller Lendt, was born March 21, 1883 in Clinton County near Toronto, Iowa, one of a family of 13 children.

On February 17, 1909 he was united in marriage to Emma Strackbein, who preceded him in death on July 9, 1937. To this union 8 children were born.

Mr. Lendt was engaged in farming in Clinton and Cedar counties. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church at Wheatland, Iowa.

He was a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge at Tipton, Iowa.

Mr. Lendt passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 8th, 1954, at the age of 71 years, 8 months and 17 days.

He leaves to mourn his passing the following children: Wilmot Lendt, Clarence, Iowa; Mrs. Marie Lupher, Marshalltown, Iowa; Mrs. Leona Zahner, New Liberty, Iowa; Mrs. Myrtle Geertz, Solon, Iowa; Mrs. Frances Deerberg and Delmer Lendt, of Tipton, Iowa; Elmer and Raymond Lendt, Wheatland, Iowa. Two sisters: Mrs. George Strackebein, Wheatland, Iowa and Mrs. Irma Reinking, Ireton, Iowa. Also 19 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church in Clarence on Friday, December 10, 1954, at 1:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. Edward J. Bowers. The music was furnished by a mixed quartette with Miss Eleanor Conrad at the church organ. In charge of floral tributes were Ruth Witte, Hilda Klahn and Ethel Strackbein. The pallbearers were C. C. Crawford, Lance Schilling, Ronald Luikart, Roger Purviance, Robert Bissel and Robert Holliday.

Interment was in the Clarence cemetery where I.O.O.F. graveside services were held.
