Mrs. Dorothea Catharina Kruckenberg, nee Buchholtz, was born on Dec. 6, 1933, at Bode, Amt Ebstrof, Provinz Hannover, Germany. She died Sunday morning, Dec. 10, 1911, at her home 1 1/2 miles northwest of Lowden, after but a few days sickness, of pneumonia, at the age of 78 years and four days.

On May 17, 1857, she was united in marriage with John Kruckenberg in the old country; in the same year they came to America and settled first in DuPage county, Ills., after residing there 11 years Mr. and Mrs. Kruckenberg came to Iowa. After renting a farm near Lowden for the first year, they bought their farm 1 1/2 miles northwest of Lowden and took possession of same on May 20, 1869, and they resided there for the remainder of their lives. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Kruckenberg, two of whom died in infancy, and Mr. Kruckenberg died in 1902. There now survive to mourn Mrs. Kruckenberg's demise 4 sons, 4 daughters, 42 grandchildren and many other near relatives.

Mrs. Kruckenberg was a fine old lady, pleasant and friendly, and a good Christian. She and her family are members of the Lutheran church.

The funeral occurred Wednesday forenoon with services at the Lutheran church in Lowden. Rev. J. H. Brammer conducted the services. The pallbearers were Carl Kroemer, Sr., Chris Kroeger, Wm. Kruckenberg, Carl Dehne, Wm. H. C. Licht and Ernst Schluter. The flower carriers were the Misses Anna Wenndt and Martha Kruckenberg. Mrs. Kruckenberg was laid to rest in the Lutheran cemetery. "Friede Ihrer Asche."
