James Wilbur Fowlie, son of Frank and Hattie Otis Fowlie, was born April 5, 1877 in Marshall county, Iowa, and passed away on Sunday, January 9, 1955, following a short illness at Mercy hospital, in Anamosa. He had reached the age of 77 years, 9 months and 4 days at the time of his passing.

He was married to Lida Clay in Jones county, September 16, 1903, and they then established their home in Clarence, moving some time later to a farm.

To this union were born two sons, Gerald of Oakdale and Mearl of Cedar Rapids. Surviving him besides his wife Lida, and the two sons, are three brothers, Frank of Fayetteville, Ark; Ralph of Salem, Oregon; and Arthur of Transcona, Man., Canada. Also three grandchildren and nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

In his youth he united with the Presbyterian church in Clarence and after moving into the Stanwood community, his membership was transferred to the Methodist church in Stanwood.

He was a member of Fremont Lodge, A.F. & A.M. No. 616 of Stanwood, and of Idelle Chapter, O.E.S. having been a Past Patron of that order.

He was interested in the better interests of the community. His home was material center of interest, which he manifested in ways of beauty and labor. He will be greatly missed by his circle of loved ones.

Funeral services were held from the Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence on Tuesday, January 11, conducted by Rev. George Gaide of Olin. Music was by Mrs. John Swift, soloist, being accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Helen Lane. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene McCaw and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bachman had charge of the many beautiful floral tributes. Pallbearers were Herbert Crock, Earl Bixler, Ernest Peck, Clarence Chamberlain, Glenn Tenley and Leroy Friedrichsen.

Interment was made in the Stanwood cemetery.

Masonic Rites in charge of Fremont Lodge No. 616 A.F. & A.M. were also held.

Relatives from Colorado, Cedar Rapids, Olin, Tipton and Clarence attended.
