John Henry Goldsmith, of Bath, S. Dak., was born December 6th, 1873, near Clarence, Iowa. On September 28, 1901, he married Elizabeth Vitensen at Olin, Iowa, and the couple established their first home in Massillon, Iowa.

The Goldsmiths moved to a farm near Plana, S. Dak. on January 1, 1906 where they lived for many years. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary September 28, 1951. For the past year they have lived with their daughters.

Mr. Goldsmith had been a member of the Bath, S. Dak. community since 1906. At the time of his passing at 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday, August 14th, 1956, he had attained the age of 82 years 9 months and 8 days. He was at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Marx of Bath at the time. In addition to his widow, he is survived by one son, Leo of Mellette; two daughters, Mrs. Leslie Marx of Bath and Mrs. Ralph Barnum of Aberdeen; two brothers, Gus of Clarence, and Joe of Zellwood, Fla.; four sisters, Mrs. Alvinia Richmann, Mrs. Anna Crist, Mrs. Alma Rix and Mrs. Erna Boettcher, all of Clarence; two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three daughters, one son, three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Aug. 17, 1956 at the Huebl chapel in Bath with the Rev. Harvey Sander, of Groton, officiating.
