27 August 1959 - The Clarence Sun

Andrew DeLozier Bowers was born near Knoxville, Tennessee, September 4, 1876. The son of James and Also DeLozier Bowers, he grew to manhood on the farm, this occupation he followed all his life.

On February 22, 1901, he was united in marriage with Bethena Cusick. In 1903 they went to Champaign county, Illinois, where they lived a number of years. Here they prospered; so they decided to buy a farm and move to Blackhawk County, Iowa, north and east of Waterloo in 1914.

To them were born three children, Alsa, Mrs. Gordon Smith of Clarence, Iowa. Ellen, Mrs. Kenneth O'Harra of Fairbanks, Alaska and James of LaPorte City, Iowa.

On August 22, 1922 Mrs. Bowers passed away very suddenly, a blow from which Mr. Bowers never recovered.

His daughter Ellen made the home for him several years. In 1945 he came to make his home in Clarence, where he stayed until 1956, then returned to Waterloo where he lived in a nursing home.

Three weeks ago, he broke a hip, from the shock of which he never recovered. He passed from this life early in the morning of August 18th, 1959, at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 14 days.

He had been a member of the Baptist Church at Dunkerton, and of the Masonic Lodge at La Porte City.

Besides his children, he leaves 6 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services, conducted by Bro. Linford Moore of Waterloo, were held at the Parker Funeral Home in Jesup, on Aug. 20.

He was laid to rest beside his wife in the Dunkerton cemetery.
