A young Tipton couple was killed in a 3-car crash on Iowa 30 at 2:35 p.m. Sept. 26 on the hill just west of the Cedar river in Linn county.

Dead are David Lee Wurr, 24 and his wife, Janice Ann, 21. Also killed in the crash were the occupants of the car that collided head-on with the Wurr car, Maye Davenport, 69 and Mrs. Amanda Blayney, 76, both of Anamosa.

The third car involved in the crash was driven by Donty Fay Swinney, 31, Cedar Rapids. He was not injured.

The Wurr and Swinney cars were eastbound and the car driven by Miss Davenport was west bound. Highway patrolmen said the Swinney car struck the rear of the Wurr auto, shoving it into the path of the Davenport car.

The crash tore the Wurr car in two, killing the Wurrs instantly and smashed in the front of the Davenport car, killing its occupants. The Swinney car went off the road and into a deep ditch.

An investigation into the crash is expected to result in charges against Swinney.
