Mechanicsville - Funeral services for Joseph C. Ryan, 76, were held at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic church, Jan. 16. The Rev. P. J. Casey offered the requiem mass sung by the church choir.

Mr. Ryan died Jan. 14 in the Veterans hospital in Iowa City. He had been in failing health for sometime but was hospitalized with a broken hip suffered in a fall in late December.

Joseph C. Ryan was born Jan. 7, 1895, in Ivesdale, Ill., the son of Cornelius and Margaret Maher Ryan. He was married on June 30, 1920 to Lucile Morris. They have lived for many years in this community. He was a veteran of World War I.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille; 2 daughters, Mrs. Don (Helen) Ward and Mrs. Al (Mary) Buchholz and a son, Paul, all of Cedar Rapids. Also, a sister, Mrs. Margaret Sullivan, Chicago, Ill.

Weldon Woods, Ralph Becker, Ben Barnhizer, Adolph Ahrens, Carl Warren and Clarence Maher were pallbearers. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery with Horner's funeral service in charge.
