Jeffrey Alan Maurer, 19, son of Alan Maurer, Wilton and Mrs. Frederick Dircks, New Liberty, was killed by a land mine while serving with the Army in Vietnam. His death took place June 9.

The son of Alan and Darlene Morehouse Maurer, he was born in Davenport, May 1, 1953. He attended the Tipton, Lincoln and Clarence grade schools. He graduated from Bennett high school in 1971.

He was an outstanding basketball player at Bennett.

Maurer entered the army late in 1971 and graduated first in his basic training class. He volunteered for duty in Vietnam.

He is survived by his father and his stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Alan Maurer, Wilton and his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Dircks of New Liberty; a brother, James, 16, at home; 4 halfbrothers, Joel, Scott, Stacy Lee and Steven Dirck, all at home; and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed F. W. Maurer, Wilton.

Funeral rites have not yet been completed.

Maurer is the second Bennett high school graduate to die in Vietnam. SP/5 Gary Hein was killed Dec. 6, 1969.
