Funeral services for Sara Maurer, 82, were held in the James-Schalinske Funeral home, Grinnell, and in the First Presbyterian church, Mechanicsville, June 9 with Horace Schaffner of the Grinnell Christian church officiating.

Her nephews, Wilbur Jack, Raymond Mcllrath, Wendell Claybrook, James Mcllrath, Stanley Mcllrath and Dale Anthony were pallbearers. Burial in Rose Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Maurer, a resident of Mechanicsville 57 years, died June 6 in the Grinnell general hospital where she had been a patient for several days.

Sara Jack was born Oct. 20, 1890, in Marshall county near Gilman. She was a graduate of the Grinnell high school and of Grinnell college. She taught school for several years. She was married June 15, 1915, to Harland J. Maurer at Grinnell and they moved to Montezuma, where he practiced law. In 1916 they moved to Mechanicsville and he continued his law practice. He died Feb. 25, 1969. Mrs. Maurer served here as postmistress and as librarian for several years.

Mrs. Maurer was a member of the Presbyterian church, the Garden club and took an active part in community affairs.

She is survived by 5 sisters and 2 brothers, Mrs. Alex (Elizabeth) Jack, John Mcllrath, Mrs. Emma Claybrook, James Harley Mcllrath and Mrs. Earl (Lucille) Anthony, all of Grinnell; Mrs. Mabel Tharp and Ruby Mcllrath, both of Kellogg, and a number of nieces and nephews. An infant brother, James, and her husband preceded her in death.
