17 March 1932 - The Tipton Advertiser

Seth Daves Wintermute, son of Jacob and Rachel Wintermute, was born at Stillwater, New Jersey, October 2, 1845, and moved with the family to Mahoopany, Pennsylvania, when a small boy. He was one of a family of fourteen children, of whom two brothers survive.

In the fall of 1869 he came to Muscatine, Iowa, where he worked, and there on February 5, 1874, he was united in marriage with Margaret A. Laing of Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

They lived in Muscatine County four years. In 1878 they came to Red Oak Township, Cedar County, where he made his home, with he exception of a few years spent in northern Iowa.

There remain to mourn his departure the wife, and five children: Walter and Warren at home, Mrs. Frances Laing, of Tipton, Mrs. Mary Manson of Delaware, Iowa, and Mrs. Elizabeth Anderson of Waterloo, Iowa. A son Willie J. preceded him in death. There are four grandchildren and a number of nephews and nieces.

In early life he united with the Presbyterian church.

Mr. Wintermute had been in failing health since early fall, and confined to bed about two weeks before his death. On Wednesday afternoon, March 8, at three thirty he passed peacefully into our Father's keeping.

Father, your place is vacant,
Your voice forever stilled,
But we know that in your passing
All things are as God has willed.

Services were held at the Red Oak Grove church, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev. Hemphill in charge. Interment was in the adjacent cemetery.
