Funeral services for Anvy A. Spear, 87, Tipton, were held July 19, 1989 at the First United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Robert Molsberry officiating. Nancy Hipple was the vocalist and Betty Trevathan was the organist. Pallbearers were David Hill, Steven Hill, Michael Connelly, Dennis Spear, Thomas Spear and Raymond Fell. Burial was in the Red Oak cemetery.

Mrs. Spear died July 18 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home following a brief illness.

The daughter of Howard and Lula Belcher Dewell, she was born June 2, 1902 in Clarence. She graduated from the Clarence schools in 1919 and attended Iowa State. She married Harry J. Spear Jan. 4, 1922 in Clinton.

Mrs. Spear was a homemaker and had lived in the Tipton area since 1934. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Clarence and the United Church of Christ in Tipton.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Kay (Shirley) Connelly, Cedar Falls and Mrs. Paul (Rosalyn) Moeller, Tipton; a son, Dale Spear, Kalispell, Mont.; 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a brother, Harold Dewell, Clarence. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son and a brother.
