7 January 1916 - The Lowden News

Mrs. Sarah Rorick was born at Knightstown, Ind., in the year of 1836, and died at the County Home of Cedar county on Sunday evening, January 2nd, at the advanced age of nearly four score years. In 1852 Mrs. Rorick together with her husband, G. H. Rorick, settled here at Lowden, where Mr. Rorick was engaged in the mercantile business for a number of years. In 1868 he died and was buried in the Lowden cemetery.

The family consisted at the time before the death of Mr. Rorick of Mr. and Mrs. Rorick and four sons and one daughter, Frank, Charles, William, David and Miss Anna, of which only two sons, Charles of St. Louis, Mo.; and William, of Los Angeles, Cali. remain to mourn the death of the mother.

After the death of her husband Mrs. Rorick's mind at times was a blank and for years she tried to control the calamity which finally overcame her and in 1884 she was taken to the Cedar County Home where she has lived for 32 years before death relieved her suffering Sunday evening.

Mrs. Rorick was always considered a help to the tenants of the County Home in assisting in the household duties and was treated as one of the family, especially by Mr. Williams, the present steward of the County Home, and his family.

Funeral services were conducted at the Owens undertaking rooms at Tipton Thursday morning, Rev. Naly of the Reformed church officiating. Singing was rendered by a Tipton quartet. The remains were conveyed from Tipton to here Thursday noon and laid to rest near the side of her husband in the family lot in the Lowden cemetery.

After the death of Mrs. Rorick a telegram reached her son, William, at Beaumont, Texas, where he had stopped on his vacation for a visit with relatives. He immediately replied to hold the corpse until his arrival.

Those from a distance in attendance at the funeral were her son Wm., of Los Angeles, Cali., Dallas D. Rorick of Oxford Jct. and Sidney Rorick of Oxford Mills, brothers-in-law of the deceased, and the Misses Martha Williams and Mollie Fleming of Tipton.
