Mechanicsville - The body of Marine PFC Dennis Lee Weber, 18, is being flown to Mechanicsville from South Vietnam, for burial. Weber was killed in action Thursday, Dec. 9.

Youngest son of Mrs. Emma Weber, Mechanicsville, Dennis was serving with the Third Marine Division between Dang Nung and Chou Li when he died. Mrs. Weber was notified Friday by a Marine Corps Reserve officer from Davenport.

His was the first death in Vietnam of a serviceman from northern Cedar county. A wire informed the family that the body would be flown back to the United States "the fastest possible way".

PFC Weber enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1964, beginning his training Nov. 3 at San Diego, Calif. He left for Vietnam in early summer of this year, going by way of Okinawa, arriving at his duty station in early August. He was an infantryman.

Dennis Lee Weber was born at Hudson, Sept. 15, 1947, and spent most of his life in Mechanicsville where he attended school. Prior to his enlistment, he worked with his brothers' sewer and excavating business.

He is survived by his mother of Mechanicsville; his father, Henry, Sioux City; 6 brothers, Luverne, Merlin, Donald, Kenneth, William and Harold, all of Mechanicsville; 4 sisters, Mrs. Walter (Elvira) Wendel, Mrs. Roxy (Marlene) Scott, Mrs. Glen (Carol) Lovell, and Sharon, all of Mechanicsville.

Mechanicsville - Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Stanwood, at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, for PFC Dennis Weber, with Rev. R. M. Muhl officiating.

Dennis Lee Weber, 18, son of Mrs. Emma Weber, was killed in action Dec. 9 in South Vietnam. His body was flown to the U.S. for burial and arrived here Saturday.

Military honors were conducted by the Busch-Dennis Legion Post 309 with more than 40 Legionnaires attending the service in uniform.

Also attending was the senior class of the Lincoln High School of which Weber was at one time a member. Many other Lincoln students also attended the service.

Pallbearers were David Siver, Jim Hein, Russ Dickey, Dick Bunge, Billy Young and Jim Boots.

Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery with Horners Funeral Service in charge.

The American Legion Auxiliary served a dinner to the family in the Memorial building at noon. Stores in Mechanicsville closed during the service.
