Mechanicsville - Funeral services were held Wednesday morning in St. Mary's church for Rex E. Taylor, 76, with Rev. P. J. Casey saying the Requiem Mass. The Rosary was recited at the Morgan Funeral home, Lisbon, Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Mr. Taylor died at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, Monday morning, Dec. 13, following a brief illness. He had submitted to major surgery on Friday.

Rex Edward Taylor was born the son of Irving Taylor and Isabel Jones on September 14, 1889 in Newport, Nebr. He received his education in the Mechanicsville schools.

Mr. Taylor was married on June 25, 1913 to Rose (Bess) Dvorak in Marion. He worked as a baker in Vinton and Reinbeck until 1945, when he retired and they moved back to Mechanicsville.

He was a lover of flowers and will be remembered in Mechanicsville for the glads he grew and shared with friends.

He is survived by his wife, son, Richard E. Taylor, principal of Iowa City High School, 4 grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Smith, Rapids City, S. Dak.; Mrs. Florence Bolenbaugh, Vinton and Mrs. Olive Turner, Ames.

A brother, a sister and a son, James I. Taylor, killed in Germany during World War II on March 26, 1945, preceded him in death.

Irvin Clark, Hubert Dvorak, George Kolda, Donald Robinson, Patrick McCarney and Orlando R. Bolenbaugh were pallbearers. Burial in Rose Hill cemetery, Morgan Funeral home in charge.
