Services Held For Mrs. Ida Hatcher In Mechanicsville

Mechanicsville - Mrs. Ida Hatcher, a former resident of this community, died in Independence, Mo. Wednesday, Dec. 30. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church, Saturday, Jan. 2 with the Rev. Beaty McDonald officiating.

Mrs. Lloyd Brown was soloist accompanied by Mrs. C. W. Norris. Ida Grapes Hatcher was born Sept. 30, 1893 and joined the Methodist church as a very young girl. She attended high school in Strawberry Point and graduated in piano music from Upper Iowa University, Fayette at the age of 18.

She was married to Harry (Jack) Hatcher in November 1916. They were the parents of a son, Robert, who died at the age of 13. The Hatchers were residents of Mechanicsville for many years. Mr. Hatcher died here five years ago, and because of ill health, Mrs. Hatcher moved to Independence, Mo. to live with her sister.

She was preceded in death by her husband and son.

Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Quitmeyer and a brother, Howard Grapes, both of Independence, Mo. Also surviving are two nieces, Mrs. Jaunita Wethington, Solon and Alma Wymore, Waterloo, and a nephew, Howard Grapes, New York City, N.Y.

Pallbearers were James Wethington, Solon; James Broell, Jesup; Gene Broell, Waterloo; Dean Trump, Cedar Rapids and Mervin Trump and Ken Kadlec, both of Mechanicsville.

Burial was in the Rose Hill cemetery with Speaks Funeral Home, Independence, Mo. in charge.
