Rites Monday For Mary Maurer, 101; Burial in Texas

Mechanicsville - Funeral services were held Tuesday in the First Presbyterian Church for Mrs. Mary Maurer at 2 p.m. with Pastor George Gallaher in charge.

Mrs. Maurer died Saturday night, May 14 at the Mt. Vernon Rest Home where she had spent the past several years.

Mary Elizabeth Miller was born May 27, 1863 the daughter of Josiah and Eliza Stufft Miller in Somerset County, Penn. In 1881 she was married to John L. Maurer and they lived together to note their 60th wedding anniversary.

The Maurers moved to Iowa, a year after their marriage, to a farm east of Waterloo and there they resided for 27 years. In 1908 they traded their farm for a Texas ranch near Del Rio, Texas and that was their home for the next 33 years.

Mr. Maurer died on Nov. 17, 1941 and Mrs. Maurer returned to Iowa to live with her son, Harland and his wife. Her children and their families gathered to observe her 100th birthday and again for her 101th.

Mrs. Maurer's long span of life covered the assassination of 4 presidents of the United states and she remembered the horse and buggy days as well as seeing the space age.

Mrs. Maurer was a member of the Methodist church of Del Rio, Texas and a short service will be held there before her internment in the Del Rio cemetery.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Pearl Smith, New Braunfels, Texas; two sons, Harland, Mechanicsville and Charles of Charles City. Also 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 19 great, great grandchildren.

A son, Earl Foster, and her husband preceded her in death.

Pallbearers were Merle Clifton, Hugh Lamont, Allen D. Jackson, Glen McKibben, A. M. Kohl and Harold Nicoll.
