Edward McClellan Crushed To Death

West Branch, Ia. - Oct. 27 -- Edward McClellan, 19 years of age, was almost instantly killed at 7:50 o'clock last night when the Ford touring car he was driving turned turtle about a mile west of West Branch. He was a graduate of the West Branch high school and had spent nearly all of his life here.

Edward was an orphan boy. He had come to West Branch to get his girl friend, Lucille Moore, and they had planned to return to Iowa City to attend a show. She was slightly bruised in the accident.

Blinding lights are believed to have been the cause of the accident. The car ran along the bank about 40 feet before it upset. He and Miss Moore were both pinned under the machine. Andy McCormick, coroner of Cedar county, held an inquest last night. A verdict of accidental death was returned by the jury.

Edward's mother, Mrs. Edna S. Vetter, died in West Branch, when he was a baby. He was adopted by his great grandfather McClellan. His father is in South Dakota.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mallie of Tipton, who were returning from Iowa City, were the first people to arrive on the scene of the accident. They summoned help and assisted in caring for the accident victims.
