Wm. Ira Melson, a well known and highly esteemed former Tipton man, passed away at Mercy hospital in Davenport, Sunday afternoon June 15th.

He was a pioneer resident of the county, and served many years as rural mail carrier from the Tipton post office. Immediate survivors include one son Foster of Davenport, and one sister Mrs. Ellen Christiansen, as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

Mr. Melson had been in the hospital two weeks, after falling and fracturing his hip. He was preceded in death by his wife in the year 1946.

Funeral services were held at the Sheets funeral home in Tipton, Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock, with the Rev. Harold Kratzat in charge. Interment was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery. The Modern Woodman of American conducted graveside rites.
