14 February 1908 - The Lowden News

Miss Lena Hagge was born in Inland township, Cedar county, Iowa, on Feb. 17th, 1887. She died at the Hagge home in Limerick, Springfield township, on Saturday, Feb. 8th, at 7 a.m. of appendicitis at the age of 20 years, 11 months and 21 days.

Miss Hagge kept house for her brother, Claus, at the old home place, in Springfield Tp., since their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Juergen Hagge moved to Inland some time ago. Having been sick for about a week, she submitted to an operation at their home, on Feb. 6th, but all to no good, for two days after her young life flickered away.

The sorrowing parents, one brother and six sisters survive to mourn the so early demise of their loving daughter and sister, and we are again forcible reminded, that the Angel of Death makes oft times sudden calls, where least expected.

Funeral occurred Tuesday with services at the house and interment at the Inland cemetery. Rev. Satory of Bennett officiated.

Deceased underwent the surgical operation at her home on the same day that her brother, Claus and Miss Alina Thede were married at Davenport. The wedding guests although knowing that Miss Hagge was sick did not learn of the operation on that day, but became afraid during the day, that she might have taken worse, as two of her sisters of Inland, who were to attend the wedding failed to make their appearance at Davenport. All hoped that the young lady would soon recover, but the Lord had willed it otherwise. "His will be done."
