Katharine Marie Elizabeth Gottschalk, nee Behrens, was born August 14, 1858, in Gehrdau, Province Hannover, Germany. She came to America with her parents in 1867. On August 27, 1875, she was united in marriage to William Gottschalk in the *** and by the same pastor who preached her funeral sermon thirty nine years later. To this union were born ten children, two of them dying in infancy.

For the past few years, Mrs. Gottschalk had not been well, needing medical attention most of the time and upon Wednesday evening of last week at 8:30 o'clock she died of paralysis of the brain, her age being at the time of her death 57 years 5 months and *** days.

The deceased was a Christian lady being a *** member of the German Lutheran church, a kind wife and a loving mother.

Left to mourn her death are her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Carl Steffens, and the Misses Bertha and Emma; five sons, John of Fort Dodge; Paul of Stanwood; Julius, Fred and Albert of this place; two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Meier, of Fort Dodge, and Mrs. John Wiebel, of this place; one brother, Henry Behrens, also of Fort Dodge.

Funeral services were conducted at the Lutheran church Saturday forenoon at ten o'clock, Rev. J.H. Brammer officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Lutheran cemetery. Those who assisted as pallbearers were Herman Hintz, F. C. Meier, Henry ***, Albert Schaefer, John Sander and Wm. Hein.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. John Gottschalk and sons, Walter and Willie, Mrs. Wm. Meier and daughter, Miss Ida, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Behrens, all of Fort Dodge; and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gottschalk of Stanwood.
