Mrs. Nellie Clements, 72, West Branch, was killed in a 2-car collision at Keokuk Street and U.S. 6 in Iowa City June 2. Mrs. Clements was dead on arrival at University hospitals about 2 p.m.

Her son, Charles A. Clements, 35, was injured when the car in which they were riding was struck broadside. Driver of the Clements car was Mrs. Clements' brother, William J. Preston of West Branch. Preston was charged with failure to yield the right of way at a stop intersection.

Preston and driver of the other car, Thomas F. Peckosh, 26, of Bon Aire Trailer Court, were not injured. Clements received a fractured shoulder and fractured ankle. Mrs. Clements died of a broken neck.

Policer said the accident occurred about 1:30 p.m. when Peckosh was headed west on Highway 6 and Preston was headed north across the highway.

Peckosh, a senior at the University of Iowa Law College, was on his way to the campus at the time of the accident, Police said. The Clements' and Preston had been in Iowa City shopping.

Requiem high mass for Mrs. Clements was June 5 at St. Bernadette Catholic church in West Branch. The Rev. P. W. McCoy officiated and burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery at Cedar Valley.

A native of Cedar county, Mrs. Clements was born June 27, 1896, the daughter of George and Elizabeth McGee Preston. She was married in 1917 to Joseph F. Clements.

She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic church and its Altar and Rosary society.

Surviving in addition to her son and brother are 3 daughters, Mrs. Harold (Mary) Williams, West Branch, Mrs. Theresa Pelzer, Tipton and Mrs. Delores Owens, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Mrs. Theresa Bujewski, Muscatine and several grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a son.
