Maxine Ellison, 5, Dies of Injuries in Truck Collision

Maxine Ellison, the five year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ellison, residing west of Tipton, died Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at an Iowa City hospital. She had been fatally injured the preceding Saturday night in a headon collision of the Ellison family car with a truck about a mile west of Tipton on the north fairground road. Cause of death was a skull fracture.

Also injured in the collision were Donald Ellison, 24, Mrs. Ellison, 25, and two sons, Donald Jr. and Richard. Mr. and Mrs. Ogal Ellison of Mechanicsville, parents of Donald Ellison Sr., said their son suffered a broken leg, two broken arms and three broken ribs; Richard suffered a broken leg, Mrs. Ellison had an ankle injury and deep leg lacerations and Donald, Jr. had cuts on the head and leg.

All the victims were taken by ambulance to an Iowa City hospital. Donald Jr. was released Sunday and is now at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ogal Ellison.

The Ellison car was reported traveling east on a graveled road toward Tipton, when it collided with a west bound gravel truck driven by a man named Peck.

Funeral series for Maxine were held at the Horner funeral home at Mechanicsville at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Bernard Kemper of the Methodist church officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.
