Loren Carlisle, Tipton Lt. Supt. Electrocuted

Killed Instantly When High Voltage Wire Is Accidentally Contacted

Loren E. (Roxie) Carlise, about 51 years of age, the Tipton superintendent of the light and water department, was electrocuted at approximately 9:30 a.m. Tuesday while working on a power line at the rear of Miller Motor Co., between Fifth and Sixth Sts.

Carlisle, assisted by Jack Sheets and Richard Moon, was changing transformers on a platform twenty feet above the ground when he accidentally came in contact with a 2,300 volt line. He was badly burned on the abdomen and died instantly.

He was lowered to the ground by his fellow workers and pronounced dead by Dr. H. E. O'Neal who was summoned.

Loren had been employed by the City of Tipton in the neighborhood of thirty years. He was jovial and friendly, cooperative and helpful in many civic activities, and had a host of friends.

He had been a member of the Vol. Fire Co. for many years, and served as fire chief for 14 years prior to his present appointment as light and water superintendent.

He was born in Tipton, Ia., Nov. 1, 1900. The Rosary will be recited at 8:00 o'clock Thursday evening at the Sheets Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at the Sheets funeral home Friday afternoon, Sept. 28, at 2:00 o'clock. Father Collins will officiate and interment will be made in the St. Mary's cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn; five daughters, Mrs. Patricia Trump of Mechanicsville, and Mrs. Mary Jane Winekauf of Tipton, as well as Sandra, Cynthia and Karla at home; three sisters, Mrs. Roxanne Crawford, of Pascagaula, Miss.; Mrs. Blanche Pike and Mrs. Pearl Hines, of Nichols, Ia.; three brothers, Wallace of Lincoln, Neb., Forest of Muscatine, Ia., and Norman of West Liberty; two grandchildren and many friends.
