The funeral services of James Burk Jr. were held Monday July 21 at St. Ann Church, Wadena, Minnesota, at 10 o'clock, Rev. Fr. Francis Lenger having charge and taking for his text 2 Math. XII 46 "It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead." After the services the body was shipped to Mechanicsville, Iowa, his former home for interment. The Requiem High Mass was read by Rev. T. V. Lawler at St. Marys church on July 24, at 9 a.m. Rev. Leo Kerrigan gave the Absolution and preached the sermon, choosing for his text: "It is ordained for man once to die and after that the judgement." Hebrews IX 27. Rosewig's "Ave Maria" was sung at the offertory of the mass by Miss Marcella Kane and Mr. Harold Kappes.

James Burk was born May 3, 1868, on a farm northwest of Stanwood. He died July 17, 1924 at his home near Parkers Prairie, Minnesota. Altho he had been ill for two years his death came as a shock to his many friends.

On Jan. 7, 1914, he was married to Sue Engeldinger, at Tipton, Iowa, and to this union four children were born: Eileen, James, William and Marnan. Besides his wife and children he also leaves one brother, Wm. of Tipton, and two sisters, Lizzie of Tipton and Ella, of Mechanicsville; two nieces Edna and Fay Burk of Tipton; and one nephews, Arthur G. Walshire of Kenesaw, Nebraska.

A large concourse of friends came to pay the last respects to their kind friend and neighbor.

Relatives attending the funeral from a distance were Peter Engeldinger Sr. of Sigourney; Peter Engeldinger of Letcher, S. Dak.; Henry and John Engeldinger, John Pohren and family, Mrs. Peter Adrian, of Keota, Iowa; John Early, of Davenport; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cosgriff, Alice Cosgriff, Mary J. Cosgriff, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Cosgriff of Clarence; T. J. Kane and family of Clarence; T. J. Mahoney and son, John McNamara, Mose Bunker, of Tipton; Lizzie Burk, Will Burk and Fay Burk of Tipton.
