Funeral services for Joseph A. DeWulf, 72, were held at St. Mary's Catholic church April 24, 1989 with the Rev. Joseph P. Hines officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery. Pallbearers were Galen Conrad, Lee Timmerman, John Tholen, Ray Penningroth, Ray Crock and Bryce Werling. Mary Wethington was organist. The rosary was recited at St. Mary's hall April 23.

Mr. DeWulf died at Mercy hospital, Cedar Rapids, April 20.

The son of Phil and Irma Van DeWiele DeWulf, he was born at Wheatland April 30, 1916. He was educated in the Wheatland schools. He married Virginia Hesse at Big Rock Feb. 16, 1946.

Mr. DeWulf was a veteran of World War II. He entered service Feb. 12, 1942 and was discharged Oct. 2, 1945. He served overseas for more than 25 months as a cannoneer with Btry. C 937th FA Bn. He took part in the Naples-Foggis, Rome-Arno, Southern France and Central Europe campaigns.

A resident of the Tipton area since 1950, he was a member of St. Mary's church, the Cedar County Farm Bureau and the American Legion.

Mr. DeWulf is survived by 3 sons, Richard, Robert and Roger, Tipton; 5 grandchildren; 4 sisters, Mrs. Wilbur (Zoe) Gregg, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Mrs. Leon (Alice) Timmerman, Bennett; Mrs. Roland (Florence) Riedesel, Tipton and Mrs. Allen (Margaret) Conrad, Lowden; 3 brothers, Modest, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Art, Wheatland and Charlie, Bennett.

He was preceded in death by his wife and 2 brothers.
