Carl H. Schnabel, 62, died Sunday night at his home here following a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1:30 at the family home and at 2:00 p.m. in St. John's Ev. and Reformed church. The Rev. E. J. Bowers officiated. Carl Schnabel was born in Hampton, Ia., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schnabel on June 30, 1890, and has lived in the Clarence community for 41 years. He married Amanda Goldsmith on December 18, 1912, in Clarence and they farmed nearby until about 5 years ago when they retired to Clarence.

They became the parents of two children, Lester who gave his life in the service of his country in World War II, and one daughter Mrs. Dorothy Conrad, who with Carl's wife and three grandchildren survive him. There are also three sisters, Mrs. Fredericka Hinken of Algona, Mrs. Louise Storm of Altadena, Calif., and Mrs. Maria Hexton of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents, also one brother and one sister.

Interment was made in the St. John's cemetery.
