William B. Murray, Red Oak Grove Pioneer Dies Monday

William B. Murray, pioneer resident of Tipton vicinity, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, after a lingering illness. He was born in Red Oak township, Cedar county, Aug. 22, 1865. Funeral service were held at the Sheets funeral home Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 27, with Rev. Raymon Ferguson officiating and interment was in the cemetery at Red Oak Grove.

Immediate survivors include his wife, Clara; two daughters, Mrs. Lee Miller of Tipton and Mrs. Frank Smith of Solon; one son, Alex, of Tipton, and one sister, Jennie, also of Tipton.

William Bandeen Murray, son of Alexander and Lucinda Pierce Murray, was born in Red Oak township, Cedar county, Iowa, Aug. 22, 1865 and passed away at his home in Tipton, Aug. 25, 1952, at the age of 87 years and three days.

On April 30, 1889, he was united in marriage to Clara E. Pate. They established their home in the Linn Grove community, where they were engaged in farming until March, 1942, when they moved to Buchanan, and then to Tipton in 1943, where they resided until his death.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Clara Murray, one son Alex R. Murray of Tipton; two daughters, Mrs. Muriel Miller of Tipton, and Mrs. Clara Smith of Solon; also a sister, Miss Jennie Murray, of Tipton; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, besides a number of nieces and nephews and other friends.

Services were conducted at the Sheets funeral home, Aug. 27, with the Rev. Raymon Ferguson officiating and interment in Red Oak cemetery.

Pallbearers were Earl Escher, Herman Hass, Charles Lamp, Norman Ford, Walter Lieb and Jake LaFrenz.

Flower girls were Mrs. Fred Eiler and Mrs. Harry Nephew.
