Funeral services for Mearl H. Strackbein, 43, Lowden, were held at Zion United Church of Christ, Lowden, April 28 with the Rev. Paul Jordan officiating. Burial was in Van Horne cemetery, Lowden.

Pallbearers were Richard Hein, Jim and Jerry Hasenbank, Valon Souchek, Kirk Hein and Terry Strackbein. Joan Souchek and Carol Hein were in charge of flowers. Mrs. Richard Hull was organist.

Mr. Strackbein was found dead at his home April 25. Death was due to carbon monoxide poisoning, according to Cedar county medical examiner.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. John Strackbein, he was born at Lowden Jan. 24, 1932. He was a graduate of Lowden high school and a member of Zion church, having served as treasurer of the Sunday school for 20 years and was an active member of the Men's Fellowship of the church. He was also active in Boy Scout work for many years.

He had been associated with Strackbein's Inc. for 20 years.

He is survived by his parents, a brother, Erwin, Lowden, 3 sisters, Mrs. William (Caroline) Hein, Lowden, Mrs. Don (Marie) Souchek, Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Arlo (Louise) Hasenbank, Clarence and 11 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister.
