1 October 1942 - The Clarence Sun

Dietrich Meier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louie Meier, was born in Estorf, Germany, on June 23rd, 1871. He was baptized in infancy and received early schooling in Germany.

In 1884 he came with his sister, Minnie, to America and to the Lowden community, where he was confirmed in the Evangelical church. He was a member of the Lowden church until 1927, when he moved to Clarence. He then joined the St. John's Evangelical church of Clarence, where he has been a faithful member since that time.

On December 6th, 1900, he was married to Miss Helena Tonne, who preceded him in death in 1929.

For four years Mr. and Mrs. Meier lived on rented places, then they acquired a place of their own southeast of Clarence, where they lived until they moved to the town of Clarence.

Mr. Meier enjoyed good health until several years ago, receiving a great amount of pleasure by doing his daily work and by spending his spare time fishing with friends and neighbors. During his years of illness and suffering, he had more than the usual amount of patience, and endured much pain without complaint.

He leaves to mourn his departure his children, George, Milda and Leona, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. George Meier, and a son-in-law, Mr. E. K. Dahl; also a sister, Mrs. Minnie Conrad of Bennett, with her family, and the families of a sister and two brothers who, with a small son, preceded him in death.

The funeral was held on Wednesday at the Meier residence and the Evangelical church with Reverend F. J. Mittler delivering the sermon. The choir furnished the music. Mrs. Minnie Strackbein and Mrs. Wm. Rix had charge of the flowers. The pallbearers were: Gus Benthien, Wm. Conrad, Ed Struck, Ferdinand Hein, Fred Debner and August Dresden. Burial followed in the Van Horn cemetery south of Lowden.
