Gustav Licht, 71, well-known resident of the Lowden community, died in his home in North Lowden at 5:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 26. He had been in impaired health for four years, and had undergone surgery in October from which he was able to obtain only temporary relief.
Burial services will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at 1:30 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran church with a brief prayer service preceding in the home. The Rev. Th. J. Eickelberg will officiate. Music is being supplied by Trinity male chorus with Waldemar Bergdolt directing and presiding at the organ. Pallbearers will be Alvin, Lawrence, and Marvin Licht, Elwood Bunge, Hugo Deininger and Lester Rowold. Mrs Martin Kruckenberg and Mrs Henry Otte will be in charge of flowers. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran cemetery.
Gustav Frederick Licht was born on March 31, 1890, on a farm northwest of Lowden. He was the son of William Licht and his wife, Charlotte, nee Sasse. Baptized on April 13, 1890, by the late Rev. J. H. Brammer, he obtained his elemetery education in Trinity Lutheran shcool, and was confirmed here on March 27, 1904. As a young man and during the first five years of his marriage he was employed as a carpenter, and thereafter operated a farm west of Lowden until his retirement 12 years ago.
On April 9, 1913, he was united in marriage to Malinda Bunge. Two children were born to them, a son and a daughter.
Mr Licht was an active member of Trinity congregation throughout his life, and served his church as an elder for six years, and as a trustee for a term of three years.
The deceased is survived by his wife; his son Melvin, and his daughter, Mrs Elmer (Alice) Schmidt, of Lowden; five grandchildren, David and Larry Licht and Kenneth, Kathryn and Karen Schmidt; three brothers, Herman, Albert and Richard Licht, of Lowden, and four sisters, Mrs Emma Twachtmann, Marie Licht, and Mrs Alvina Schmidt of Lowden, and Mrs Amanda Engel of Davenport.
He was preceded by one brother, Carl, and by one sister, Mrs George Deininger.
