In Response To: Anita Flour Mill (Tyler)

The 1875 Andreas Atlas shows a mill on Troublesome Creek, Benton Township, Section 29. That's west of Anita, north of Wiota. From a post office address point of view, it's possible that was addressed as "Anita". That appears to be the closest mill to Anita that I've seen any record of.

Your 1905-1918 time period is later than the above, and Turkey Creek runs right by Anita, so it's possible there was a flour mill right there, but like you I haven't ever come across any reference to a flour mill right at Anita.

You may have found this already, but from the 1875 Andreas Atlas section on Cass County history, pg. 487:

"The first grist mill was erected at Lewis 1857, by Keyes, Peck & Co., and the same is now operated by John Roush. Previous to the building of the Lewis mill the settlers had to go with their grists to "South Coon," forty or fifty miles distant. R. D. McGeehon got his first "grist" ground after locating in Cass County, at Rockport, Missouri, distant one hundred and twenty-five miles, seventy-five miles of that without a house to cheer the traveler on his way."
