Hello! The Cass County Genealogical Society maintains an obituary card file in the Genealogy Room at the Atlantic Public Library. The file isn't complete, but they continue to add to it, and they have microfilms of the Atlantic News Telegraph available there also. If the obituary isn't already in the card file it's easy to look it up on microfilm.
Since you are his daughter, I assume you have an exact date of death? (Your query just says 9/1989.) The Atlantic News Telegraph is a daily paper, so you really need to provide the exact date if you're asking someone else to do the lookup for you.
You have several options if you aren't able to go to the library yourself to lookup the obituary.
The Cass County Genealogical Society does research for $10 per hour plus copy fees. There is a link on the main Cass County IAGENWEB page for the Cass County Genealogical Society. Their email address is casscgs@yahoo.com.
Another alternative is the RAOGK organization (Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness). RAOGK recruits volunteers at the county level who kindly volunteer their time to do lookups at no cost other than actual expenses (such as copy fees, etc). Check out their website and follow the directions there to find a volunteer. (Link included below.)
I would be happy to do the lookup for you myself, but unfortunately I no longer live in Iowa and only make a limited number of trips back to Atlantic each year (most of those in summer).
I hope the above helps. Let me know if I can answer any further questions!
