My father's grandmother and my great-grandmother was Ane Nielsen Bach/Bak.
My great-grandmother's brother, Frederich Severin Bach was born in Thisted, Denmark on Oct. 10, 1852 to Niels Sørensen Bach and Ane (Frederiksdatter) Frederiksen.
Frederik Severin Bach is listed in the Danish archives as leaving Denmark for Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 34 in 1887 on board the ship called Hekla. He had to present the papers concerning his emigration as well as his ticket to the authorities in Denmark on Oct 9, 1887 and usually the ship left shortly after that, usually from 0-5 days after presentation to the authorities. The route would most likely have been directly from Copenhagen to New York as the name of the ship is given.
With help from the wonderful folks at Ancestry.com I know that Frederik/Frederick Bach landed at Castle Gardens, New York.
