SERVICES SUNDAY FOR
MRS. MYRTLE MILLER, 92Mrs. Myrtle Ruth Miller, 92 of Cedar
Rapids, formerly of Atlantic, died
Monday at a Cedar Rapids hospital
following a long illness. She was the
widow of the late Willis A. Miller and
had been maker her home with a son-
in-law and step-daughter, Mr. and Mrs.
Vernon Lichtenstein, since 1966.The daughter of Asa and Sarah
Moreland Hardenbergh, she was born
in rural Cass County Nov. 29, 1882
and was a public-school teacher for
several years, having taught in Cass
and Pottawattamie County schools
and in the Marne, Griswold and Harlan
schools.Mrs. Miller received a business
education and also taught school in
Bellingham and Hoquiam, Wash., and
in Des Moines. She served as a
county superintendent in Cass and
Polk counties and was elected Cass
County superintendent of schools,
serving from 1921-24.She was a nationally and
internationally recognized genealogist,
having written a book, “The
Hardenbergh Family.” Mrs. Miller was
a member of the Presbyterian Church,
regent and state chairman for genealogical records of the Daughters
of the American Revolution, past
president of the Atlantic Woman’s
Club, past county chairman of the
Women’s Salvage Operations, past
member of Rebekah degree, past
Noble Grand and past Eastern Star.
She helped organize the Atlantic
Garden Club and was president of the
Ladies Literary Club.Mrs. Miller was married to William A.
Miller April 19, 1922 in Omaha.
Surviving are a step-daughter, Mrs.
Vernon (Genevieve) Lichtenstein of
Cedar Rapids and two step-
granddaughters. She was preceded in
death by her husband, who died
August, 5, 1968; her parents; and a
sister, Mary Alice Hardenbergh.
Funeral services will be held at
2:30p.m. Sunday at the Roland
Funeral Home, with Rev Robert
Houser of the First United
Presbyterian Church officiating.
Interment will be in the Atlantic
Cemetery.
