PRESTON H. HARTER, 85, DIES HERE THIS MORNING
Preston Henry Harter, 85, retired Lorah grain elevator operator and farmer, died at 5:10 this morning at the Cass County Memorial hospital. He had been hospitalized since April 13.
The son of John and Eliza Jane Barber Harter, he was married to Gracie Whitmore in Atlantic Jan. 24, 1906 and operated Lorah grain elevators until 1930, when he moved to a farm east of Brayton. Since failing health forced him to retire from the farm two years ago, he had resided in Lewis. Mr. Harter also worked as a carpenter and painter.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Grace Harter; three sons, Arlie Harter of Wiota, Dale Harter of Brayton and Emile (Pete) Harter of Greenfield; two daughters, Mrs. Erma Berge of Lewis and Mrs. Raymond Hansen of Atlantic; 18 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, four sisters and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Roland funeral home and burial will be in Oakfield cemetery east of Brayton. The family will meet relatives and friends at the funeral home from 7:30 to 9 Friday evening.
