This morning the remains of DeWitt C. Cady were brought from Creston and buried in the Atlantic cemetery. The Masonic fraternity and other friends met the bereaved family at the depot and the body was taken to the Baptist church where the funeral services were immediately held. After a short and impressive sermon by Rev. W. E. Stanley and appropriate service by the Masons, the body was followed to the cemetery by many friends and buried with Masonic rites.
DeWitt C. Cady was born in Oneida county, N. Y., May 23, 1842, and came to Cass county in 1870 and was an honored citizen of this community until he moved to Creston last May, where he died Friday, December 18. Mr. Cady was married to Hattie A. Owens, of his native home, October 26, 1869, and to the union three children have come to bring joy to their parents, Frank C., Mary E. and Clarence W., who are now a comfort to the bereaved wife and mother. The family was well and favorably known in Atlantic and were prominent members and faithful workers in the Baptist church, Mr. Cady having filled several of the prominent offices in the church organization. Many have been the words of sympathy for the living and respect for the dead since the sad news first reached Atlantic of the death of Mr. Cady. At this time it is not known whether the family will return to Atlantic to live or not. Frank Cady, the oldest child, is now a pharmacist employed in Chicago.
