Frank C. Cady Is Dead at 72; Was Pioneer Druggist

His First Pharmacy Was at 69th st. and Normal Blvd.

One of the pioneer druggists of Southtown, a man who operated his own store when pharmacists dealt only in drugs, died last Monday in Woodlawn hospital.

He was Frank C. Cady, 72 years old, who lived at 57 E. Marquette rd. Mr. Cady was born December 5, 1871, in Atlantic, Ia., was graduated in 1892 from the school of pharmacy of Northwestern university. His first drug store was at 69th st. and Normal blvd.

After selling this shop in 1910, Mr. Cady owned a store at 63rd st. and Kimbark ave. for about 20 years. For the past four years he had been employed at the Dahl pharmacy on the site of his original store.

Mr. Cady was member of the Woodlawn commandery, Knight Templars, which conducted services Wednesday evening in the chapel at 316 W. 63rd st.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Frances Gates of Boston, a brother, Clarence of Seattle, and a sister, Mrs. Evelyn Hammond of Burton, Wash. A daughter, Mrs. Harriet Manning of Chicago, and his wife preceded him in death.

NOTE FROM CONTRIBUTOR: Frank Cady was born December 5, 1871 in Brighton Township, Cass County, Iowa and died February 28, 1944. Frank grew up on the family farm operated by his father and grandfather, but at age 15 his family gave up farming and moved into Atlantic.
