CHARLES A. DAY, PIONEER IOWAN IS DEAD AT 95

Charles Allen Day, pioneer resident of southwestern Iowa, who was born in Van Buren county, Ia., more than 95 years ago, passed away this morning at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Durr, 1003 Laurel street.

Mr. Day, who had made his home with his daughter for many years had been in serious condition since Sept. 10, when he suffered a stroke. He remained in a state of semi-consciousness until death came.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Day, her was born in Van Buren county, Ia., May 22, 1845, and came with his family to Adams county in 1863. He was married to Mary Elizabeth Evans Oct. 31, 1867, at Brooks, Ia.

To this union were born six children, three of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Day passed away June 11, 1880, and in 1886 Mr. Day moved to Atlantic with his three children.

He had since made his home here, engaging in carpenter work and house moving until failing health compelled him to retire. He sad [had] been a member of the Methodist church for years.

He leaves as survivors his son, Walter S. Day of Omaha, and his daughter, Mrs. Durr. Another son, Ira Morgan Day, died in 1921 of injuries sustained in the world war. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three half-sisters, Mrs. Hiram Baker of Springfield, Mo., Miss Letitia Day and Miss Ella Day of Corning.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Roland, Peacock & Baxter funeral home, and interment will be in the Atlantic cemetery. The Rev. Claude W. Cooper of the First Methodist church, assisted by the Rev. Lawrence W. Bash of the Church of Christ, will conduct the rites.

The body will lie in state at the funeral home until the services.
