MARTIN RUANE, DIED YESTERDAY

Atlantic Resident Passes Away at His Home on South Cedar Street At 6:35 last Evening.

The death of Martin Ruane, a well known and respected resident of this city occurred last evening at 6:35 o’clock at the home on south Cedar street. The cause of the death was paralysis. He suffered a slight stroke three years ago and the second in July of this year. Two weeks ago he had another slight stroke and yesterday death resulted. He was seventy-three years of age at the time of his death. The funeral services are to be held tomorrow morning at then o’clock at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church in this city, Rev. Father Daly in charge, and interment will be made in the family lot in the Atlantic Catholic cemetery.

Martin Ruane was born in the parish of Kilkeedy in County Clare, Ireland, on November 8, 1843. With his parents he came to America in 1857, and the family settled near Watertown, Wis. In 1870 he purchased a farm of his own in Franklin township, south of Wiota, where he resided up to eight years ago when he retired from the farm and settled in this city, where he resided up to the time of his death. He was married on January 10, 1878, in Dodge county, Wisconsin, to Mary A Montague, who survives him, and to the marriage three children were born. The son, Frank, died eleven years ago. One daughter, Mary J. Ruane is a teacher in the Omaha public schools and the other daughter, Mrs. S. M. Malone, lives south of this city.

Two brothers survive him. They are John Ruane of Saxe, Minnesota, and James Ruane of Slayton, Minn., the latter of whom was present at his brother’s bedside. During his residence in this community, the deceased made many true friends, who admired him for his sterling manhood and good qualities. They will join his sorowing [sorrowing] relatives in mourning the death but will rejoice with them in a life well spent and filled with good deeds.
