MRS. SHELDON L. SMITH, 63, DIES HERE YESTERDAY

Mrs. Effa Geneva Smith, 63, lifelong Cass county resident and wife of Sheldon L. Smith, died at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon at the Atlantic Memorial hospital, where she had been a patient the past month. She had been in failing health several years.

Mrs. Smith was born north of Atlantic June 13, 1884, the daughter of Edward and Margaret Harris and grew to womanhood on the family farm. She was married to Mr. Smith at the home of her parents June 23, 1910 and the couple has resided on the same farm since. Mrs Smith was an active member of the Buck Creek Methodist church.

Surviving besides the husband are three children, Mrs. Porter Wardrip of Griswold, Mrs. Arlin Moller of Atlantic and Delbert Smith, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Charles E. Malone and Mrs. Joe Karwal of Atlantic; two brothers, Ira and Leo Harris of Atlantic and four grandchildren. A brother, Lester Harris and a sister, Mertie Harris, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Roland-Peacock & Baxter funeral home, the Rev. L. D. Thomas officiating assisted by the Rev. C. W. Hohanshelt. Interment will be in the Atlantic cemetery and the remains will be at the funeral home until the service hour.

ATLANTIC – Services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Roland, Peacock and Baxter funeral home here for Mrs. Effa Geneva Smith, 62, who died Monday at the Atlantic hospital, where she had been a patient one month. Burial was in Atlantic cemetery.

Mrs. Smith was born north of Atlantic on June 13, 1884, the daughter of Edward and Margaret Harris. She was married to Sheldon L. Smith June 23, 1910, and they have resided on the same farm since.

Surviving are: her husband; and two daughters, Mrs. Porter Wardrip of Griswold, Mrs. Arlin Moller of Atlantic; a son Delbert Smith, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Malone and Mrs. Joe Karwal of Atlantic; two brothers, Ira and Leo Harris of Atlantic; and four grandchildren.
