Esther Butler, 81, Retired Teacher, Dies Early Today

Miss Esther Butler, 81, of 810 East Fifth street, a retired teacher and lifelong resident of Atlantic, died at 5:20 this morning at the Cass County Memorial hospital. Miss Butler, in failing health the last two years, entered the hospital Tuesday.

She was born here Jan. 25, 1891, the daughter of Morton Harley and Eva Williams Butler and was a graduate of Iowa State Teachers college, Cedar Falls. She retired in 1956 after teaching 48 years in Atlantic and Cass county schools. Miss Butler was a member of the First United Methodist church, DAR and Kill Kare club.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Zola Carey, Atlantic, with whom she lived; a niece Mrs. Cleo Troy, Owatonna, Minn.; two nephews, Colin Carey, Baudette, Minn., and Maurice Carey, Omaha; four grand-nieces and a grand-nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 10 o’clock Tuesday morning at the Roland funeral home, the Rev. James C. Riley officiating. Burial will be in the Atlantic cemetery.
