Ex-Sheriff Herbert is reported to be dying at his home in Pymosa township, to-day of typhoid-pneumonia. Mr. Herbert is an old settler of this county and has twice been honored by places of trust by the people of this county, the first time being elected to the office of Sheriff in ’71. He held the office two years and at the expiration of his term in 1873 was elected a member of the Board of Supervssors [Supervisors], which office he held three years. Mr. Herbert is now 55 years of age. He was formerly a citizen of Atlantic and occupied the building now used by J. S. Harlan as a boot and shoe store as a residence. It is not thought probable that he will live until another day.
