HARLEY M. BUTLER, 81, SUCCUMBS AT HOME HERE TODAY

Morton Harley Butler, 81, a longtime resident of Atlantic, died this afternoon at 2:15 at his home, 810 East Fifth street, as the result of old age. He had been in failing health for several years.

Mr. Butler was born Nov. 1, 1861, in Randolph county, Ind., the son of Robert and Susan Collins Butler, and came with his parents in a covered wagon to the Buck Creek vicinity northwest of Atlantic in 1863. He was married here July 26, 1886, to Miss Eva Williams and after farming near Atlantic a short time, they moved to town, where Mr. Butler was engaged in the transfer business until retiring in 1932. Mrs Butler died Oct. 11 1932.

Surviving are two daughters, Miss Esther Butler, first grade teacher at the Lincoln school here and Mrs. Zola Carey, wife of Bertram Carey of Atlantic; one sister, Mrs. J. S. Herbert of Atlantic and three grandchildren, Mrs. Cleo Troy of Atlantic, Colin Carey, in the marine aviation corps at Memphis, Tenn., and Maurice Carey, stationed out of Washington, D. C. with the navy.

Mr. Butler was a member of the Atlantic Methodist church, Atlantic B. P. O. Elks lodge 445 and a veteran member of the Atlantic volunteer fire department.

Funeral services are pending word from his grandsons who are in the armed forces. The body will remain at the Roland, Peacock & Baxter funeral home until the day preceding the funeral rites.
