Russell Whited, Retired Area Farmer, Dies

Russell D. Whited, 86, retired area farmer, died at 8 p.m. Monday at the Cass County Memorial Hospital. He was a resident of 1501 Lincoln Drive.

The son of Simon and Eliza Neely Whited, he was born March 7, 1899, in Cass county near Anita and graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1918. His marriage to Beulah Butler took place March 17, 1926, and they farmed near Atlantic and Lewis, except for 20 years spent in Colorado. He was a member of the First Methodist Church and the Modern Woodmen Lodge.

Surviving are his wife; three grandchildren, Jay and Joel Whited of Kansas City, Kan., and Todd Whited of Harrisonville, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Chris and Carmen Whited of Kansas City, Kan.; and a sister, Violet Combs of Bakersfield, Calif. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Whited; his parents; three sisters, Eva George, Charlotte Kerr and Blanche Ryan.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Roland Funeral Home, with the Rev. James King of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery near Lewis.
